About Us
When it comes to used car sales in Stockport, one name regularly features in conversations about car buying experiences. The HLG Team derives its name from High Lane Garage, which has catered for motorists’ needs for more than eight decades, trading on the main A6 site since it was a much narrower ( cobbled! ) road. Putting it in context, horses probably outnumbered cars as the traffic of the day. The road back then was actually known as High Lane, although now it is Buxton Road, High Lane Village. Conveniently located and with a catchment area which includes Greater Manchester, Tameside, Glossopdale, Buxton and the High Peak, Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Poynton, Macclesfield and beyond, passing drivers regularly glance across to see what's new.
Many of our customers referred to the business affectionately as “HLG” and “the team at HLG” on Christmas cards, testimonial letters and in conversation. It wasn’t long before we, too, abbreviated High Lane Garage to its initials. As in other things, we listened to our clients and it was they who shaped the direction of our business.
Within a very short time, a brand was born! When the premises in the centre of Disley became available in 2009, it was a natural progression to keep HLG at High Lane and trade at the new branch as HLG Disley. Two premises, just a mile and a half apart, specialising in four of the most respected makes in the world - Mazda, Suzuki, Honda and Toyota, hence Mazuki Honota, the catchphrase to listen out for! Back in the 70's and 80's, our Disley branch was actually a Mazda franchised dealership, with a huge following in the area. Nowadays, of course, there are very few small agencies like this in the UK, as manufacturers favour giant premises for " moving the metal." Customers looking for old fashioned personal service need not fear, however; HLG is one of a diehard breed of independent dealers who value your custom and will look after your motoring needs, often saving you money into the bargain...
The present owner of the business, Peter Murray, has been involved in car retailing since 1968. Since taking over in 1993, Peter has made it his mission to source well cared for cars and offer them at value for money prices. “You can buy a car anywhere” says Peter, “but we like to put in the extra effort to offer vehicles with a ‘wow’ factor. The right car, matched to your requirements, means customer satisfaction for you and job satisfaction for us. It also means you are likely to come and see us as your preferred used car dealership next time and to recommend friends, family and associates”. Adam, Lindsay, Malcolm and Peter will be pleased to discuss your purchase criteria. If you have an exceptional car to sell, please ‘phone Peter with full details. ( It is a good idea to have the service book and V5 registration document to hand when doing this ). Both HLG branches have a clear message to motorists: HLG Disley specialises in Mazdas and Suzukis, whilst HLG High Lane caters for those buying or selling Hondas, Toyotas and other makes, with small and medium automatics and estate cars also contributing a great deal to our offerings.
The High Lane branch has won several accolades – Trading Standards “Fair Play Charter” membership for eleven consecutive years, Stockport Council “Business Excellence” awards six years running and last year the S.M.B.C “Cleaner, Greener Stockport” certificate, which is currently being reviewed for 2011. These demonstrate a commitment to our customers, staff and our surroundings. It is our sincere hope that as the Disley branch grows in stature, it too will earn the respect of those who appreciate the advantages of dealing with a small, privately owned establishment. Certainly the people of Disley have made us feel welcome and prospective buyers are stopping by to have a chat and look around.
More important to us than recognition in the form of certificates, however, is the fact that we strive as a business to provide a good working environment, with goals for staff and customer contentment levels to ensure harmony, loyalty and our long term survival in what for many have been turbulent times. When Robert Austin opened for business here on the 15th of June 1927, he could not have envisioned that in 2010, the business would still retain the values and customer focus which saw his original team flourish through sheer hard work and determination. A legacy which we are proud to uphold, while embracing contemporary technology, more sophisticated customer requirements and ever changing market and economic forces.
Our previous website had remained little changed in its tenth year, so, whilst it had done a good job for us,we felt it was time for a freshen up and a better user proposition. This all new version has been designed and built to our exacting requirements by local man John Shiel, of Krann Communications in Poynton. We wanted to retain our understated, straightforward look, yet bring our participants an easy to use experience; informative but not gimmicky. We think you have met the brief, John and thank you for the uncomplaining, "can do" approach, good humour and patience you displayed - not forgetting the sheer enthusiasm. We feel this shows in the result and we will be interested to hear from anyone with ideas for enhancing the site still further. As mentioned earlier, we are customer led and are always grateful for your input... tell us if you think we have missed any features which should be added or modified in some way. We can then discuss it with our man in the white coat and googles, Professor Shiel.
Read on, click on all the pages and enjoy our 24/7 website offering. Come back and visit us as many times as you like and please tell your friends to have a look! Of course, we don't want you to just sit there and look at your computer screen... we'll be pleased to meet you, show you round and extend you the cordial HLG welcome. This, after all, is part of the reason we have such a high incidence of repeat and referral business. A visitor once told us " I always enjoy coming here. I have been to a lot of garages over the years, but yours is like a grain of gold in a sea of sand ". Mazuki Honota to that!
We think he likes us. We hope you will, too. Enjoy!
